Science & Technology

Children are natural scientists, interested in investigating and understanding the world around them. The science curriculum builds on this curiosity, presenting numerous opportunities for investigation and connecting them to students’ everyday experience. Students learn about matter, atoms, mass, molecules, and reactions in chemistry; while in physics they explore forces and energy, energy transformation, light, electricity, magnetism, and inertia. During the elementary years, students learn how to conduct a scientific experiment, from collection of data to using control.

Technology study begins with an exploration of the six simple machines, where students discover the history and practical uses of each machine. Students are then free to explore technological advances that pique their interest, as well as those that are of use to them in their daily lives.
